Mushroom Gummies are a new kind of mushroom-based product that’s been popping up in grocery stores, health and wellness shops, and online. They’re easy to take, like capsules and powders, but tastier and mess-free. For people who want to ingest mushrooms more casually, or just prefer gummies over powders, these are the best options out there.
But it’s important to buy a brand you trust. Several recent cases of toxicity linked to mushroom gummies have been reported, including one in Australia. NSW Health warned people to stay away from Uncle Frog’s gummies, which reportedly contained Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane mushrooms and hemp extract. They also listed HHC and THC (hexahydrocannabinol and tetrahydrocannabinol) on their packaging, which are psychoactive compounds found in cannabis.
GBMushrooms doctors say the gummies sickened five patients — including a 3-year-old child. The gummies were advertised as containing the “magic mushroom” Amanita muscaria and other ingredients that improve cognition, called “mushroom nootropics.”
But those same mushrooms can cause psychedelic experiences. The FDA says consuming too much can lead to nausea, confusion, anxiety, blurred vision, and other symptoms. That’s why it’s so important to read the label and follow dosage instructions carefully — and to never share your gummies with others.
