If you’re looking to buy a new car, there are plenty of options on the market. And if you want to buy an electric vehicle, there are even more choices. But you may not know about one of them — VinFast, the Vietnamese automaker with an unusual backstory.
The company specializes in vinfast for sale SUVs. Currently, it sells the midsize VF8 model in the US at 13 showrooms in California and is working on a larger SUV for this year and a sedan for next. The company has a lot riding on its US debut, but it’s struggling to catch up to rivals.
Despite a slew of abysmal reviews, VinFast is still pushing forward with its plans. The company recently partnered with Leith Automotive Group in North Carolina to help with sales and service. Initially, the company had planned to go the Tesla route and sell directly to customers.
But it’s unclear if that strategy will work in the United States. For one, the company has a poor reputation amongst international journalists and reviewers. It also made the controversial decision to ship vehicles to the US before they were fully tested, which earned it a series of bad reviews. Plus, a VinFast critic in Vietnam was arrested and had his computer confiscated by the police.
